In an exciting twist in the boxing world, a former champion has expressed a desire to step back into the ring for a fight against the legendary Manny Pacquiao. This comes on the heels of Pacquiao's own dramatic return to professional boxing last July, which stirred quite a buzz among fans and fighters alike.
After a hiatus from winning a professional match since 2019, Pacquiao made headlines by challenging WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios in July. His comeback was met with some frustration from other contenders in the fiercely competitive 147-pound category, who were eager for their own opportunities.
Despite showing remarkable spirit and engaging in a surprisingly close contest, the now 47-year-old Pacquiao was unable to secure the victory he sought, instead ending up with a draw against Barrios. This outcome meant that his quest to break the record for being the oldest welterweight world champion continued, as he indicated his intention to keep fighting before ultimately retiring.
Pacquiao is currently exploring various options for his next bout, including potential title challenges against WBA champion Rolando Romero or perhaps a rematch with his long-time rival Floyd Mayweather, who famously defeated him in 2015.
But that's not all. Now, two-division champion Zab Judah has come forward, expressing his eagerness for a face-off with the only eight-division champion in boxing history, Manny Pacquiao. In a recent interview with MillCity Boxing, Judah passionately stated, "Let’s get it. I turn down nobody, I turn down nothing but collars, that’s on my mama. Me and Manny never fought. We here, I would love to."
Judah continued to hype the potential matchup, saying, "You got me hyped with that Manny Pacquiao-Zab Judah s--t. That sounds like something. It’s a good idea. We ain’t lacking over here, baby. Where Manny at? You put a n—a name on the contract with mine and watch what happens. You already know how I get down."
As the boxing landscape begins to settle, it appears that Pacquiao may have to overcome some hurdles before securing his next title shot. Romero is expected to face mandatory challenger Shakhram Giyasov, while Barrios is likely gearing up for a match against Ryan Garcia.
With all these developments, the iconic Filipino boxer's next fight could lean towards being more of a spectacle. However, Judah, who retired in 2019 following a serious brain injury sustained during a stoppage loss, might find it challenging to make his case heard in this bustling environment.
