A hot topic at Fenway Fest has been the potential return of Alex Bregman to the Red Sox. Despite his absence, the question on everyone's mind is whether he'll be back for Spring Training in Fort Myers, Florida.
Red Sox manager Alex Cora has a clear stance: "The ball is in his court." He acknowledges the ongoing negotiations and his high regard for Bregman, stating, "I love the player. We love the player."
Multiple reports suggest Boston has made an aggressive offer, but the club maintains its policy of silence on specific negotiations.
The fit between Bregman and the Red Sox was evident in 2025, with his leadership on and off the field. The foundation laid last year hints at an even stronger bond in 2026.
"He checked all the boxes I expected, and some I didn't," Cora said. "We let him work, and I cannot talk about free agents, but I'll say this: we love having him."
Lefty Connelly Early, who debuted strongly last season, has had extensive interactions with Bregman. Early credits Bregman for helping him gain weight and increase his durability, and for securing him a spot at Bregman's Arizona training facility this offseason.
"I've been able to learn from him and the other guys there. It's been a great experience," Early said, highlighting Bregman's value to any team.
While Early doesn't have insider knowledge, his hope for Bregman's return aligns with the entire organization.
"Everyone wants him back. He's focused on getting ready to play, and his agent will find him a great spot."
Veteran shortstop Trevor Story, who recruited Bregman last offseason, also stays in frequent contact. He understands the unique appeal of playing for the Red Sox and the special feeling of winning in Boston.
Despite not signing any Major League free agents this winter, the Red Sox have bolstered their roster with trades, adding starting pitchers Sonny Gray and Johan Oviedo, and first baseman Willson Contreras.
After a successful 2025 season that saw them return to the postseason, the Red Sox aim for a deep playoff run. Bregman, or a player of similar caliber, could be the missing piece.
Red Sox president/CEO Sam Kennedy emphasizes the club's obligation to deliver a World Series championship to their fans, stating, "That's what they deserve."
Whether Bregman will be part of that quest remains uncertain, but the curiosity will persist until a decision is made.
Cora urges fans to be patient, reminding them of past successes with late additions like J.D. Martinez and Alex Bregman himself.
"The offseason is not over. We'll see what happens in the coming weeks."
And so, the wait continues, with fans eagerly anticipating the resolution to this intriguing situation.
