Trae Young's Shocking Ejection: A Preview of His Fierce Competitive Spirit? (2026)

Trae Young is ejected before he even debuts for the Washington Wizards

Trae Young managed to pick up an ejection before he had a chance to step onto the court for his new team.

The four-time All-Star, who was traded from the Atlanta Hawks in early January, was slated to make his Wizards debut on Thursday night against the Utah Jazz. However, he was thrown out for leaving the bench area during Washington’s 123-118 home defeat to the Houston Rockets.

Young entered the court Monday to protest a non-call involving Tari Eason in the third quarter, receiving a technical foul and an ejection. Eason was also sent to the locker room.

Following the incident, Young took to social media to lighten the mood, posting on X: “Don’t expect me to get ejected too many more times D.C.😂 .. but I’m definitely bringing that energy & competitiveness when I’m back for my brothers!”

He has been sidelined with a sprained MCL and quad injuries, not playing since late December. On Monday, he indicated on social media that he was aiming to return on Thursday.

The Wizards have struggled for consistency over the past decade, making the playoffs only once in the last seven seasons. The club hopes that Young, who has averaged 25.2 points per game across his career, along with 10-time All-Star Anthony Davis, will reinvigorate the team. Davis has been out since January due to a hand injury.

But here’s the part that could spark debate: does a dramatic early ejection set the right tone for a team in transition, or does it risk signaling chaos at the top of a new era? Share your take—does this kind of fuel-first energy help or hinder a squad rebuilding around a superstar?
