Stefanos Tsitsipas Reflects on a Challenging Year, Future of His Career
Stefanos Tsitsipas, the Greek tennis star, had a difficult 2025 season, marked by persistent back issues and disappointing results. The 27-year-old, known for his two major final appearances, struggled with a 2-4 record at Grand Slam events, including a retirement at Wimbledon. His performance dipped to outside the Top 30, his lowest ranking since 2017.
The Greek athlete's journey to recovery and his relationship with his father, Apostolos, have been pivotal. After a challenging period, Tsitsipas completed his pre-season without discomfort, thanks to a period of recovery and rehabilitation. He expressed his desire to continue playing for another decade, but the nagging injury and its setbacks forced him to reconsider his future.
'I got really scared after my US Open loss with my back, because I just couldn't walk for two days,' Tsitsipas shared. 'When things like that happen, you start reconsidering the future of your career.'
The dynamic between Tsitsipas and his father has improved significantly. The elder Tsitsipas returned to take the reins after a coaching split, and the two have been working together harmoniously. Stefanos noted, 'He's a much better communicator. That was the most important thing working with him.'
As Tsitsipas prepares for his return to the court, he aims to put the challenges of 2025 behind him and look forward to a brighter future in tennis.
