Imagine meeting a Stanley Cup champion and hockey legends, all while supporting a fantastic cause! Even though he's sidelined with an injury, Washington Capitals center Pierre-Luc Dubois is making a special appearance alongside two beloved former Caps at a public autograph signing this Saturday, December 6th. But here's the best part: it's all for charity!
Dubois, currently recovering from abdominal and adductor muscle surgery (an injury sustained after just six games this season, with his last appearance on October 31st), will be joined by Brooks Orpik, the rugged defenseman and 2018 Stanley Cup champion who now serves as a Capitals’ player development coach. And adding even more star power, Mike Green, the offensive powerhouse and the last Capitals defenseman to light the lamp for 30 or more goals in a single season, will also be there.
The autograph session will be held from 1 pm to 3 pm in Prince Frederick, Maryland, at Prince Frederick Chrysler Jeep Dodge RAM. It's part of the dealership's 13th annual Toys For Tots drive, so you're not just meeting hockey heroes, you're helping bring joy to children in need during the holiday season. In a cool double-header, former Baltimore Orioles Nick Markakis and Jim Johnson will also be signing autographs earlier in the day, from 11 am to 1 pm.
Now, let's talk about how to snag those autographs. Wristbands are your ticket in, and they'll be handed out starting at 9 am. And this is the part most people miss: there are two ways to get one, and both involve giving back!
According to the dealership, to access the Capitals autograph signing, you have two choices:
- Option 1: The Toy Drive Power Play: Bring three brand new, unwrapped toys, each with a value of $20 or more. That's one toy per player! Think of it as a hat trick of generosity.
- Option 2: The Cash Donation Assist: Donate $75 in cash, and you'll get autographs from all three Capitals players.
For the Orioles players, the requirements are similar:
- Toy Drive Home Run: Bring two new, unwrapped toys (again, $20+ value each) – one for each player.
- Cash Donation Slide: Donate $50 in cash to get autographs from both Orioles players.
Prince Frederick Chrysler Jeep Dodge RAM has a history of bringing in top Capitals talent for their events. Past appearances have included fan favorites like Nicklas Backstrom, Braden Holtby, John Carlson, T.J. Oshie, Devante Smith-Pelly, Evgeny Kuznetsov, Logan Thompson, and Connor McMichael. This longstanding tradition speaks volumes about the dealership's commitment to the community and its connection to the Capitals organization.
Dubois is expected to be out for approximately three to four months while he recovers from his surgery. You can follow the dealership on social media (Facebook and Instagram) to stay informed about future events and potential player appearances.
But here's where it gets controversial... Is it fair to require a minimum monetary value for donated toys? Some might argue it ensures quality donations, while others might feel it excludes those with tighter budgets. What do you think? Does this donation structure encourage genuine generosity, or does it create an unnecessary barrier for some fans who want to participate? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
