"The spring rate is significantly lower than before, allowing it to absorb imperfections and provide a smoother journey," Archilla adds.
Steering with Precision
But Mazda's improvements aren't just skin-deep. They've enhanced the CX-5's steering feel by adding more analog feedback and refining their G-Vectoring Control system. This system reduces engine torque, transferring weight to the front tires when turning, resulting in better grip and response.
"It creates more force that's fed back through the steering, giving the driver a more connected feel," Archilla notes.
All-Wheel Drive Advantage
The 2026 CX-5 introduces a new feature to enhance steering: lightly preloading the torque coupling in the all-wheel-drive system. This innovative approach forces the front and rear tires to spin at the same rate, keeping the car straight and stable.
"It's this self-aligning torque that translates into more force through the column, combined with reduced damping in the electric power steering assist system, that truly elevates the steering feel," Archilla explains.
