Bold issue: Google Weather on Wear OS is broken for many users, and the fix is proving elusive—and that matters for anyone relying on timely forecasts on their wrist.
Back in September, Google stopped offering its Weather app for new Wear OS 6 devices. Since then, Google Weather has stopped working on the original Pixel Watch and other devices due to a bug that prevents forecasts from loading.
Update 12/15: By Monday morning, Google rolled out a server-side fix, and the Weather app is displaying temperatures again. If you don’t see forecasts yet, a watch restart may help. This wasn’t an app update but a backend correction.
Original 12/12: When opening Google Weather, users see a perpetual “Loading…” screen that ultimately becomes “Can’t download weather data.” A “Retry” option is present, but it leads to a loop. The issue also affects related tiles like Forecast, Sun, and UV Index, which show “Loading weather” or “Couldn’t retrieve your location.”
This problem affects all Google Weather users across Wear OS devices, including the original Pixel Watch and Samsung Galaxy Watch.
Official stance from September indicated Weather would continue to work only if the app was installed before upgrading to Wear OS 6. Google no longer supports new installs, steering users toward the default OEM weather app. Pixel Weather remains available on Pixel Watch 2, 3, and 4.
